Vincent Van Gogh - "Wheat Field with Cypresses" 1889
Vicent Van Gogh’s painting "Wheat Field with Cypresses" made on canvas with oil depicts the cycle of life, death, and growth. First of all the colors used in the painting are different from other paintings of Van Gogh I have written about such as the “Cafe Terrace at Night” and the “Starry Night” paintings, these paintings all utilize the color palette of yellow, yellow ochre, and blue.

Vincent Van Gogh - “Café Terrace at Night” 1888
The famous painting “Cafe Terrace at Night” is painted by Vincent Van Gogh, the painting depicts a cafe at The Place du Forum, in Arles. Van Gogh utilizes a limited pallet of yellow and blue, two complementary colors that perfectly help and contrast each other.

Leonardo da Vinci - “The Mona Lisa” 1503 - 1519
painting is made by Leonardo Da Vinci, the painting is oil paint on a poplar wood panel which creates a smooth blending feeling for the art. The painting is 77 cm × 53 cm (30 in × 21 in) which is relatively not as big as the paintings made during this era such as “The School of Athens”. The painting is likely depicting a wealthy merchant’s wife, which was commissioned likely as a gift or commemoration. The colors used all lean very close to a yellow ochre. Da Vinci’s color palette must have been very limited.

Vincent van Gogh - “The Starry Night” 1889
This painting is called the Starry night, it shows an array of lights and shadows all communicated through a spectrum of colors. It shows the view from the east-facing window of Van Gogh’s asylum room at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, just before sunrise, with the addition of an imaginary village.
